Segra Milo appears in Andor as the remote and hostile planet that serves as Saw Gerrera’s hidden base of operations. In this location, Luthen Rael meets with Saw in a tense and ideologically charged encounter that highlights the fractures within the Rebel movement itself.
The scene emphasizes isolation, paranoia, and moral ambiguity. Saw’s hideout is presented as deliberately difficult to reach, reinforcing his distrust of outsiders and his willingness to operate beyond conventional rebellion tactics. The harsh environment mirrors his uncompromising worldview and contrasts sharply with the more political, calculated resistance represented by Luthen.
Rather than functioning as a battleground, Segra Milo is a place of negotiation and warning. The meeting there underlines the stakes of open rebellion and foreshadows the internal conflicts that will shape the future of the Rebel Alliance.
The real filming location
Segra Milo was filmed at Winspit Quarry, located on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, England. This abandoned stone quarry sits directly on the Jurassic Coast, an area known for its dramatic limestone cliffs and raw coastal landscapes.
The quarry’s carved rock faces, tunnels, and exposed stone platforms provided a naturally alien setting without the need for extensive set construction. Its weathered textures and uneven terrain translate convincingly into a Star Wars environment while retaining a grounded, physical presence on screen.
Winspit Quarry has previously been used in other film and television productions, but in Andor it is transformed into a bleak, militarised hideout shaped by survival rather than comfort.
Why this location was chosen
The production of Andor deliberately avoids overly stylised or glossy locations, and Winspit Quarry fits perfectly within that philosophy.
Its stark, industrial scars and coastal exposure give Segra Milo a sense of danger and impermanence. The location visually communicates that Saw Gerrera’s faction operates on the margins, both geographically and ideologically.
Using a real quarry also allowed the actors to interact with a tangible environment, reinforcing the show’s emphasis on realism. Minimal digital enhancement was needed, as the quarry already conveyed the isolation and severity required for Gerrera’s base.
Visiting the location today
Winspit Quarry is publicly accessible, though visitors should exercise caution. The site is rugged, uneven, and exposed to coastal weather conditions, with no formal visitor facilities.
It is popular with hikers, climbers, and photographers, and fans of Andor can recognise key rock formations and open quarry spaces used in the series. As an unstaffed natural site, access is free, but safety awareness is essential.
There are no markers or signage referencing Andor, preserving the quarry’s natural and historical character.
