One of the most recognizable filming locations from the sixth season of Game of Thrones is the Cathedral of Girona. This impressive Gothic building served as the setting for the Great Sept of Baelor, the central place of worship for the Faith of the Seven in the series. Visitors can explore the cathedral and see where scenes featuring the High Sparrow, Cersei Lannister, and the Faith Militant were filmed.
The Cathedral scene included the largest number of extras, with nearly 200 Tyrell soldiers, dozens of sparrows, beggars… and the added spectacle of Jaime Lannister riding his horse up the grand staircase of the impressive building—all with magnificent sea views.
It is located in the heart of the old city center, known as La Força Vella, which aligns with the urban layout of Gerunda, a Roman-era settlement with remaining sections of the wall still visible in the current Cathedral Square. It is undoubtedly the city’s most visited tourist site and a favorite among visitors.
