Andor – Palmo, Ghorman

Filming Location in Italy

Palmo, the capital city of Ghorman, appears in Andor during Season 2 through wide aerial and establishing shots that introduce the planet’s political and strategic importance within the Empire.

The city is portrayed as a controlled, fortified urban centre, reflecting Ghorman’s tense relationship with Imperial authority. These shots do not focus on individual characters, but instead communicate scale, order, and pressure, placing the viewer inside a world shaped by surveillance and military presence.

Palmo functions as a narrative symbol. It represents the kind of planet whose identity has been overtaken by Imperial interests, setting the stage for the events that make Ghorman such a critical point in the series’ wider conflict.

The real filming location

The real-world location used for Palmo is Forte Montecchio Nord, located in Colico, on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy.

This early 20th-century military fortress, one of the best-preserved First World War forts in Europe, provided the production with a ready-made defensive structure perfectly suited to represent an Imperial-controlled capital. Its concrete forms, artillery positions, and elevated vantage points translate seamlessly into the visual language of Andor.

Aerial footage of the fort and its surroundings was combined with digital extensions to transform the site into a dense capital city, expanding its scale while preserving the authenticity of the real architecture.

Why this location was chosen

Andor is known for grounding its Star Wars worlds in real, physical locations, and Forte Montecchio Nord fits that philosophy perfectly.

The fortress already conveys control, militarisation, and permanence, qualities central to the depiction of Ghorman under Imperial influence. By using a real military installation rather than a soundstage, the series achieves a tactile realism that enhances its political tone.

The fort’s strategic position overlooking the landscape also makes it ideal for aerial shots, reinforcing Palmo’s role as a capital built to dominate both territory and population.

Visiting the location today

Forte Montecchio Nord is open to visitors and can be explored through guided tours. Visitors can walk through artillery rooms, observation points, and exterior platforms that appear on screen, making it one of the more tangible Andor filming locations.

While the digital city extensions are exclusive to the series, the core architecture seen in the show is unmistakably present, allowing fans to stand inside the physical foundation of Palmo, Ghorman.

The fort also offers panoramic views of Lake Como, adding an unexpected contrast between real-world beauty and the oppressive atmosphere it represents in the series.
