Games of Thrones – Citadel Library and the King’s Landing Cloister

Filming Location in España

Within the walls of the Sant Pere de Galligants Monastery, home to the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia, lies one of the settings from Game of Thrones. In the series, it serves as the entrance to the Citadel Library, the center of knowledge for the great maesters of Westeros, where Sam hopes to become a maester. The beautiful cloister of Sant Pere de Galligants also appears in the series as the King’s Landing Cloister.

The Monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, with its church and cloister still visible today, is one of the finest examples of Catalan Romanesque architecture. Although little remains of the original pre-Romanesque monastery, traces of an earlier structure have been preserved. The construction of the current building began in the first half of the 12th century, around 1131, when Ramon Berenguer the Great donated a significant sum to fund the work.
