Games of Thrones – Euron Greyjoy’s Entrance to King’s Landing

Filming Location in España

The Arco de la Estrella, also known as the New Gate, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Cáceres and served as a key backdrop in Euron Greyjoy’s grand entrance to King’s Landing during the seventh season of Game of Thrones. Located at the transition from the Plaza Mayor to the historic old town, this medieval gateway was a perfect choice to capture the grandeur and drama of the scene.

In the final part of the sequence, Euron Greyjoy passes through the Arco de la Estrella, surrounded by an applauding crowd. His prisoners—Yara Greyjoy, Ellaria Sand, and Tyene Sand—are paraded behind him, enduring public humiliation as they are showered with jeers and trash by the citizens of King’s Landing. This iconic moment underscores Euron’s rise in Cersei’s favor as a manipulative and boastful ally.

To the left of the Arco de la Estrella, the Torre de Bujaco is prominently visible. This is the tallest tower on the Cáceres city walls and adds an imposing medieval aesthetic to the scene. The Arco de la Estrella itself, with its unique curved shape, dates back to the Renaissance period but retains the charm of Cáceres’ medieval past, making it an ideal location for the show.

The Arco de la Estrella and Torre de Bujaco are part of Cáceres’ UNESCO-listed historic center, celebrated for its well-preserved architecture and rich history. Visitors to this location can walk through the same gate as Euron Greyjoy and experience the atmospheric charm of Cáceres, which seamlessly brought King’s Landing to life in Game of Thrones. This scene, along with others filmed in the city, highlights the importance of Cáceres as a filming location for one of the series’ most visually stunning settings.
